Booking a ski holiday on your own, with a group of people you’ve never met, who all happen to be single? Yeah, that’s a lot of unknowns lol.
You’re probably thinking: What if everyone already knows each other? What if you can’t ski? What if it’s basically Love Island with goggles? (It’s not, we promise x).
So we’ve put together an honest guide to what group ski holidays for singles are actually like. It covers who you’ll meet, what the first day looks like, and what happens if you’ve never clicked into a pair of skis.
Spoiler: it feels a lot more like a long weekend away with mates you just haven’t met yet.
So let’s get into it!🎿
who goes on a group ski holiday for singles?
People a lot like you! Confident skiers, total beginners and people who haven’t skied since year 9 lol – everyone’s welcome on our singles ski trips.
Our guests are typically in their 20s, 30s and 40s, and around 94% come on their own, so there’s no need to worry about going solo. Honestly, it’s totally normal (but if you’d rather bring a friend along, that’s fine too).
A lot of people sign up because they’re fed up with swiping and want to meet people IRL and it turns out a chairlift is a much better place to start a conversation than a dating app.
If you’re a kind human who’s up for a laugh, you’ll fit right in. Don’t just take our word for it, have a nosy at our reviews from past trips. 👏

what the first day actually looks like
getting there
First things first, you’ll fly into Geneva. The resort is about an hour and a half from the airport, and we run an optional Haystack coach that leaves at 1.30pm on the Thursday (estimated £40 each way – we’ll send you the link nearer the time).
If you want a seat on the coach, book a flight that lands with plenty of time to spare for luggage and security queues. With so many of you joining us, the drivers can’t hang around, so they’ll set off at 1.30pm sharp. 🚌
before you go, don’t forget:
- your passport
- travel insurance that covers winter sports in Switzerland and France
- some euros for apres
arrival
Time to check in, meet your roommates and get settled in. All rooms are shared with guests of the same gender. If you’re staying at the Apres Lodge, we use our matching technology to group people with similar morning and evening preferences.
So if your ideal holiday morning is a lie-in, you won’t be bunking with someone who’s up doing yoga at sunrise. Unpack, have a little explore and put your feet up – you’re on holiday!
welcome night
Everyone heads to the Alpine Lodge for welcome drinks, and this is where our reps make all the introductions. So there’s no need to rehearse your best one-liner or worry about being left hovering by the bar.
The best part? We’ve got the chalet bar serving free-flowing Aperol, beer, wine and spirits with a whole load of delicious canapés (on us x), so you won’t need to buy dinner lol. 🥂
do you need to be able to ski?
Nope! (And if you need more convincing, we’ve already covered why most people aren’t great at skiing anyway lol.) We group people based on ability, with daily meeting points, so first-timers can take it at their own pace and confident skiers aren’t stuck waiting at the bottom.
Snowboarders are very welcome too! 🏂
Portes du Soleil is particularly good for beginners. It has 600km of slopes and 208 ski lifts across 12 Franco-Swiss resorts, and more than half of the slopes are easy, so there’s plenty of room to find your ski legs.
Equipment hire and ski school lessons aren’t included, so sort these before you go. If you’re new to the slopes, it’s also worth having a quick read of the FIS rules so you know the basics of slope etiquette.
Don’t fancy skiing all day? That’s cool too. Plenty of people ski in the morning and head to apres in the afternoon. And if you want to shake things up a bit, the area also offers snowshoeing, sleigh rides and snowmobile rides. Or you can just put your feet up in the chalet bar – no judgement here. 😇
what you’ll be doing thursday – monday
A typical day on a group ski holiday for singles goes a little like this:
- breakfast together at the Alpine Lodge
- out on the mountain with your ski group
- optional apres in the afternoon
- evenings in the chalet bar or games room (and free time is genuinely free)
Here’s what’s happening each day:
Thursday: arrive, check in and get settled before welcome drinks (more on that above).
Friday: meet your ski group and explore the area, with mountain socials and meeting points along the way.
Saturday: the main event – a huge scavenger hunt on skis, finishing at a secret apres-ski venue.
Sunday: your last day on the slopes, rounded off with a three-course alpine feast and wine at the farewell dinner.
Monday: one last breakfast, then time to say goodbye. Checkout is at 10am, and the return coach leaves for Geneva airport from both lodges at 10.30am.
Most importantly, everything is optional, so you can join in as much or as little as you like. Flights, transfers and equipment hire aren’t included. For prices and the full itinerary, take a look at our January and March ski trips for the full breakdown.

how the social side of group ski holidays for singles works
Our reps then take the lead from the moment you arrive, with mixers and introductions throughout the trip, so you never have to wing it alone and honestly, the activities do most of the heavy lifting.
Chairlifts, wipeouts and scavenger hunts give you something to talk about straight away. There are studies behind it: an Oxford study found that rowers who trained together got a bigger endorphin boost than when they trained alone, and researchers link that feel-good effect to social bonding. So if you’re worried about making a fool of yourself on the slopes, don’t be. It’s half the fun!
It’s not an intense dating holiday, either. If something happens, lovely. If not, you’ll head home with a group of new mates – win-win.
After the trip, the group chat carries on too, so you can keep in touch and meet up again at one of our events in your city.
ready to hit the slopes?
We’re heading to Portes du Soleil twice in 2027, from 7th to 11th January and 4th to 8th March. You can secure your place on either of our January and March ski trips with a £250 deposit. The balance is due on 30th October for January and 30th November for March, so don’t leave it too long
